Vallée de la Loire

The wines of this region are characteristically aromatic, fresh and delicate in most part due to the northern positioning of most of the vineyards.

The wind currents from the Atlantic flow down to the Loire Valley until the reach the Samurois hills and Touraine.

In the western part of this region, the muscadet (a melon variety) produces a very unique dry white wine.

In Anjou the most know grape variety for whites is Chenin. It produces some of the great sweet wines from this region – Coteaux du Layon.

For reds it is the cabernet franc and cabernet sauvignon which dominate.

The gamay nor and sauvignon blanc in this region produce wines that are light, fruity and pleasant.
